Come with us to explore Hands-on with Samsung’s ridiculous $1,600 Ceramic Galaxy S10+
Samsung’s Galaxy S10+ comes in a large variety of shapes and sizes. There are 3 sizes and several colors within each size along with multiple storage tiers. In the largest Galaxy S10+ there is even an option for a Ceramic back plate rather than standard glass. The ceramic option is only available with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage or 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, both of which are overkill and expensive. So I bought one.
Yesterday, Samsung delivered my top-tier Galaxy S10+. I opted for the absolutely ridiculous and totally overkill 1TB version with the comically over the top 12GB of RAM. This will be my quick initial impressions and hands-on with the most decked out Galaxy S10 you can buy.

In coverage of the Galaxy S10+, and handling one at Best Buy, a common first impression is: “Wow, this is light.” A phone with a 6.4-inch display doesn’t seem like it would be light. That’s mostly not the case with the ceramic version. Samsung lists the ceramic model at 198g versus the glass models 175g. That might not seem like a lot on paper, but it’s a little over 10% heavier. As usual with Samsung, build quality is outstanding. The phone feels premium, solid, and heavy in all the right ways.
I chose the white ceramic back, which comes with an almost rose gold aluminum band running around. Most review units Samsung sent out were the Prism White model, which has a silver aluminum band. Personally, I absolutely love the look here with the Rose Gold and think it helps the phone to stand out a bit.
1TB and 12GB – Why?
Here in the US, the top-tier Galaxy S10+ with a massive 1TB of storage and 12GB of RAM retails for a whopping $1,599. This is an absolutely outrageous price and I can’t imagine who would need 1TB of storage and a microSD slot. I can’t recommend anyone spend this much, myself included, to be honest. It’s great for bragging rights, but likely not much else.
The one possible use for this much RAM and storage could be DeX. Recently Samsung opened up a beta for Linux on DeX. Last year, we tested Linux on DeX with a Galaxy Note 9 and found that while it worked, it wasn’t quite ready to replace anyone’s desktop just yet. Perhaps during the Galaxy S10+’s lifespan, we can push the 1TB version to its limits, but that’s a big if to spend $1,599 on.
Should you buy it?
This is by no means our review of the Galaxy S10+, it’s simply my first impressions with the very expensive and very silly top model from Samsung. Overall, the phone feels great, looks great, and so far performs great. None of that should be a surprise with these specs. I’m very happy with the look and feel of the white ceramic. Should you spend this much just for a cool-looking phone? Probably not, but it’s certainly a high-quality piece of technology. This is the quintessential “Android Flagship” that’s available right now and nothing really looks to unseat it.
