Come with us to explore Sony AOSP Program Lollipop for Xperia Z1, Z2, Z3 / Compact
The Android Lollipop madness continues at an incredible pace and every few hours, we learn about new ROMs for various unsupported devices. There are some OEMs out there that have shown that they care about aftermarket ROM development. In the last few months, we’ve written quite a bit about the Sony AOSP program. Now, we have a chance to write about it once again.
Sony announced that there will be device trees, binaries, and a unified kernel for three of their latest flagship devices: the Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z2 and Sony Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact. In fact, the developer team, with the help of XDA Senior Recognized Developer jerpelea, already managed to run it on the Xperia Z3. You can see the result on the video below.
Offcial repozitories on Github should be updated really soon, and we will be sure to let you know. Meanwhile, you can build your own KitKat ROM or experiment with the freshly released Android 5.0 Lollipop source and hopefully port it over to Xperia devices before Sony does it in official capacity.
We truly hope that other vendors will follow Sony’s path and release AOSP versions, as well as device device trees, kernels. and binaries necessary to build Android. This is a good thing and we want to thank Sony for their continuous efforts.
